About HEICMe

HEICMe was born when I couldn't find a good solution to convert my images taken in HEIC to PNG. There were offerings out there, but they were slow, and involved uploading my private images to their website.

HEICME is built differently. Your images never leave your device. We convert HEIC to PNG locally on your device, using a simple open-source library called heic2any. It uses JavaScript to do the conversion.

This makes our service far more secure than most other converters, who upload your images to their servers to process them.

This does mean, if your device is a little older, it may take a little longer to process the conversion, but that's got to be better than having to sacrifice your privacy?

What Is HEIC?

Perhaps you've stumbled across this page because you've downloaded images from your phone to your PC, but they are in a format you've not seen before?

Or perhaps you're just curious about where the format came from, what was wrong with PNG anyway?

HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image File Format. It was created by Apple, Samsung and Cannon, among others. They felt standard image formats just weren't cutting it, they were requiring too much storage. Therefore, they created a new format which takes up less space on your device, without sacrificing quality.

The problem, however, is that the new format isn't supported on the web. You can't show a HEIC image on a webpage such as this, it has to be converted from HEIC to PNG (or another format).
